Former PGA Tour member and Heathrow resident Danny Ellis fired a final round 67 to capture the 2009 Ocala Open Championship. Ellis had rounds of 70-66-65-67 for a 4-day total of 268 (20 under par) on the 7333 yard Candler Hills Golf Club lay-out to win by 3 strokes over Nick Lindheim of Melbourne, FL.
Saturdays final round was plagued by strong winds, gusting at times to 40 miles per hour. This was Danny's first FPGTour victory, earning him a check for $20,000 from the $107,000.00 purse.

Well I'm sure by now you all have heard that former PGA Tour member Danny Ellis, from Heathrow, Florida has captured the 2009 Ocala Open Championship.
We at the Florida Professional Golf Tour would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Mr. Ellis on his victory, and hope to see him soon back on the biggest stage in golf, the PGA Tour, in the near future.
I would also like to take a moment to thank everyone at Candler Hills Golf Club, and On Top of the World Communities, for their support in this great Championship. Without their tireless efforts an event of this stature would not be possible.
I would like to thank the many volunteers who make this Tournament so special. I wish I could name each and every one of you here, and I may still do that if I can somehow obtain a list of your names, but in the interim, please know how much I appreciate your hard work and what you do for this event.
